Urvashi & Amitesh (PGPX 2012)

Urvashi Vanzara and Amitesh Tyagi – PGPX, Class of 2012

“How could people manage to get a ZERO in the Strategic Cost Management course despite best efforts of Professor Rajendra Prasad?” Urvashi, the CA in our class quipped when she learned that some of ‘us’ had managed to get a Zero in a finance surprise quiz. She confronted Amitesh and asked, “What’s your score in SCM?” All hell broke loose when she learned that even he was one of the ‘Zero scorers’. Urvashi made a pledge to ‘fix’ his finance skills. And so started his outside the class tuitions. But life is a great leveller. Soon our Microeconomics score came out and the look on Urvashi’s face made it clear that our finance wizard has lost the plot in Microeconomics. Sneaking a chance, Amitesh offered her a ‘return tuition favour’ and so our journey began.

Urvashi counters the claim above with the fact that it was when Amitesh helped with her marketing campaign to win one of the key student body positions in our batch, that she realised she has found a great friend. Not still sure that it was for life. So the story of Urvashi and Amitesh began from our beloved IIM, Ahmedabad.

The first two terms were a real drag for us. As someone rightly described it, like running ahead a fast-moving train. So no time for romance. However, immediately after T-Nite, we went to Warwick University, UK, for our International Immersion. Suddenly, we had all the time in the world as the programme was really not that immersive in nature. The chilly September English weather and the free time in hand, made it a perfect DDLJ-style setting for exploring life beyond academics in our small circle.

On our return, the suspecting eyes of our classmates always chased us saying, “Kuchch to chakkar hai.”‘ Not keeping anything in suspicion, soon our class clearly realised that Chakkar to pakka hai.

Both of us are serious food lovers. Or simply – love of good chatpata food is our second common thing other than IIM, Ahmedabad. We spent many cool evenings in Cafe TAANSTAFL, at Ram Bhai’s Tapri enjoying Maska Bun and in exploring multiple thaali options in Ahmedabad. The one restaurant that holds special place is The Collegian. For all its history and good food served (specially the baked cheese veggies), it was also the place where we dropped the ball on our parents when they visited us for our convocation. We live our vivid memories from T-Nite, Chaos and all the other great breakouts that IIMA Campus offered us and relish every moment spent there.

By the way, both of us scored reasonably well in Cost Management and Microeconomics and fared well through the entire programme.

Post IIMA, we spent some time in Mumbai and Pune – for our own jobs. We finally got married in February 2013. We currently live in New Delhi and regularly meet friends from our class and other batches. Every time we meet them, the spirit of campus and good old times is rejuvenated. We are blessed to have found each other. Our journey has just begun.

Writing this article helped us relive those lovely days and feel younger again. Thanks for this wonderful initiative.
