Urvashi & Ankit Bhura (PGP 2014)

Couples

We were batch mates at IIM Ahmedabad (2012-2014). The annual college fest is where we first met as part of the organising team and love blossomed there on.  We were “just friends” to begin with, and gradually discovered our attraction towards each other. He showered me with attention (made me rose queen on V-day with the maximum roses on campus!!), made me feel extremely special. I reciprocated with equal zest.

We were college gossip at first but eventually graduated into becoming a batch wide, well known as-a-matter-of-fact sort of data point. All was hunky dory till the time we lived on campus, shielded away from the outside world, it was when we stepped out that we were truly tested.

We made our parents meet in a typical filmy style at our convocation. My parents were more or less convinced but his family being a traditional marwari family, were quite against this union. We struggled for over a year-and-a-half to make them come around. And amidst all the fights with family as well as between us, he finally managed to convince them. Just to put things in context here, ours was the first ever love marriage in his entire family spanning generations and across all degrees of relationships; so one can well imagine the effort that had gone into making this happen. Though it’s a long and tough road ahead but we’re excited and this is our homegrown “two states”.

It’s been a couple of years since we got married now, and both families are extremely happy and joyous now, which makes us wonder often, why was there any resistance in the first place? Both families have been extremely warm, welcoming and gracious towards each other.

Although I have massively underplayed our story here for brevity’s sake, but for us and all our friends and family who have been part of this exciting journey, it has truly been the ride of our lives.
