Economics and Public Policy: Developed India by 2047 – Risks and Remedies

With help from PGP ’83 alumni, we organized a session with Dr. C. Rangarajan for the benefit of Chennai Chapter members. Prof. Rangarajan shared his vision for “Developed India by 2047”, when the nation completes 100 years of Independence, emphasizing the importance of increasing private investment by 2%, embracing new technologies, promoting labor-intensive sectors, and sustained public investment in education and health. The event was well attended by about 70 alumni based in Chennai.

Strategic Diversification: The China +1 Strategy

This session analyzed the ‘China Plus One’ model to mitigate risks from geopolitical tensions and supply chain disruptions. It focused on India’s role as an investment destination and the market linkages for India’s manufacturing sector. Key speakers included Dr. P S Srinivas (PGP’86), Visiting Research Professor at NUS, and Dr. Frank N. Pieke, an expert on modern China. The session was chaired by Dr. K C John (FPM ’88), with welcome remarks from Mr. Lakshminarayanan D, President of MMA.

Macroeconomic Governance: Balancing the Trilemma

Chief Guest Dr. Ravindra H. Dholakia (IIMA Faculty 1985-2018) addressed the trilemma of managing monetary policy, price stability, and financial stability. Key topics included inflation dynamics in India, global shocks, and liquidity management. Opening remarks were delivered by Mr. V Kumaraswamy (PGP ’83), who reflected on IIMA’s pedagogy. Introductory remarks were provided by Mr. M P Vijay Kumar (Sify Technologies), and the dialogue included Ms. Lokeshwarri S K (Hindu Business Line). The event was earlier planned to be an in-person session, but we had to settle for an online mode because the professor could not travel due to Indigo flight cancellations.
Institutional Excellence: From Lucknow to Wall Street

Keynote speaker Ms. Devina Mehra (PGP ’86), Founder & CMD of First Global, shared leadership lessons on building a global research powerhouse. The session covered decision-making under uncertainty, contrarian thinking, and the ‘Human + Machine’ AI/ML asset management model. Dr. Asit Kumar Barma (PGP ’86) provided the welcome address. Special invitees included Mr. Chandu Nair (PGP ’83) and Mr. Shyam Sekhar (Founder, ithought PMS).
