Synopsis 

As per estimates there are 25,07,462 small scale entrepreneurs in Tamilnadu. Most of them do not have any formal knowledge of management. They operate mainly on instincts, this book written in Tamil is an effort to empower them with the major principles of management. It starts with the Industrial Revolution, and moves on to Division of Labour, Henry Ford’s assembly line, Hawthorne experiment, Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs, Peter Drucker’s theories, X, Y and Ouchi’s Theory Z Concepts, the quality movements of Homer Sarason, Deming and Juran, Muda, Muri and Mura, Lateral thinking, Peter Principle, Mentoring, 360-degree appraisal, Porter’s Five Forces Model, Benchmarking, Prahalad’s Core competence and Bottom of the Pyramid, Hammer’s Business Process Re-engineering, Balanced Scorecard , Goleman’s Emotional Intelligence and finally the Blue Ocean Strategy.  This is a vast canvas but the essence of each topic is accessible to the reader, as the principles are fortified with real historical anecdotes and the experiences of local small businessmen. It is very clear that its target audience would mostly be persons who are not accustomed to reading, especially non-fiction. To hook them, the writing- style is breezy, affable and respectful to the reader.

S. L. V. Moorthy hails from Nagercoil, a town near the southern  tip of India. A state-ranker in his B.Sc from the Madras University, he did his Post-graduate Diploma in Instrument Technology from the Madras Institute of Technology before joining IIMA. Passing out in 1969,  he joined Grindwell Norton Limited  through campus-placement and became the Sales Manager of their Abrasive Materials Division. He built and developed their exports and won the Govt. of India Award for outstanding exports. Bitten by the entrepreneurial bug, Moorthy left Grindwell and started his own venture Moorthy Marketing Associates. The company is involved in imports and is vibrant even today.  Moorthy is a prolific writer in Tamil and English. He has hundreds of articles, 30 short stories and 50 Books (2 in English, 48 in Tamil) to his credit. He is one of the pioneers  of  management writing in Tamil. His Book “MBA – Moontezhuthu Manthiram” (MBA – the 3 Letter Mantra) was chosen as the Best Business Book of 2008. The then Chief Minister Karunanidhi presented Moorthy the citation and the cash-prize.
