T. B. Viswanathan

30 Jan 1936 – 7 April 2024

It is with profound sadness that we announce the demise of Shri T.B. Viswanathan (PGP 73). He  passed away peacefully on April 7, 2024, at the age of 88. He is survived by his wife Janaki Viswanathan, their children and grandchildren. He was an alumnus of the Guindy Engineering College (Civil-1957 batch),  IIT Kharagpur and IIM Ahmedabad. Having spent his formative years at PS High school and Vivekananda College, Chennai, he joined PWD  after completing his engineering degree. After his posting at the Irrigation Research station, he joined IIT Kharagpur as an Associate lecturer while also completing his Masters degree. After that, he entered the Military Engineering Services and served for over ten years before securing an admission to the IIMA (1971-73). Post IIMA,  he had stints with the Grindlays Bank and assignments in North Africa before returning to India to commence  his own business.

Gifted with a razor sharp intellect, he was the eternal  optimist. He stayed physically and mentally fit until his last days.  Visionary and forward thinking in his approach, he was an active contributor to the  PM’s election manifesto and ‘Viksit Bharat’ programmes till the end.  Always encouraging youngsters to think big, his positivism left an indelible imprint. In the two months prior to his demise he had a couple of hospitalisations from which he never fully recovered  but then God was kind enough in his  calling. He will be dearly missed.
