It is with profound sadness that we share the news of the passing of Shri Y Puran Kumar with the IIMA community.
Born in Secunderabad, Telangana, he completed his B.Tech in Computer Science from Osmania University, Hyderabad, and was an IIM Ahmedabad alumnus (PGP-1996). Late Sh. Y Puran Kumar was allotted to the Indian Police Service with the Haryana Cadre in 2001. He served as SP and SSP of important districts like Ambala, Kurukshetra, Yamunanagar, Mahendargarh, and SP Railways. He also served as Director in the Cabinet Secretariat (RAW). He was the recipient of the President’s Medal for meritorious service. He was an exceptional officer, known for his honesty, sincerity, and citizen-friendly policing. He served as Joint CP of Gurugram and, thereafter, as Inspector General of Police at the Prisons Department, Ambala Range, and Rohtak Range.
He is survived by his wife, Smt. Amneet P Kumar, IAS, and two daughters, Aditi Yerrram and Amulyaa Yerram. The elder brother of Late Shri Y Puran Kumar, Mr. Y Vikram Kumar, is also an alumnus of the IIM Ahmedabad PGP-1996 batch.
